Yuko Mohri

profile

Yuko Mohri (b. 1980, based in Tokyo) is a multidisciplinary artist and sensitive observer of our habitats. Attempting to capture the non-tangible—sound, light, wind—she facilitates networks of self-contained ecosystems. Within these systems, she emphasizes the presence of chance, error, and silences, noting the various modes of dialogue between us and our surroundings. For “Decomposition,” a work involving fresh fruit bowl, plug-in wires, and speakers, a responsive composition is calibrated by evolving moisture levels, the act of decay transformed into an auditory experience.

Her work has been shown at the 14th Gwangju Biennale (2023); Tai Kwun Contemporary (Hong Kong); Palais de Tokyo (Paris); Museum of Contemporary Art (Tokyo); 23rd Biennale of Sydney (2022); 34th Bienal de São Paulo (2021); and Kochi-Muziris Biennale (2016). Her work has been collected by M+ (Hong Kong); Centre Pompidou (Paris); and Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (Brisbane). She will represent Japan in the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024.
